Man Charged With DUI After Striking Mother, Child With Car: PD
Police said the driver fled from the scene of the accident but was later located by officers.

WATERFORD, CT — Police said an adult and a juvenile pedestrian were hit by a car Monday afternoon in Waterford, the driver of which has been charged with driving under the influence. According to multiple media reports, the pedestrians were a mother and a child.
According to a news release, the incident occurred at approximately 4:09 p.m. on Greentree Drive in Waterford. Police said responding officers located an adult and juvenile pedestrian who sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.
Police said both pedestrians were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital by members of Waterford Ambulance. The names of the pedestrians are not being released at this time, police said.

The road was temporarily closed by officers and residents were asked to avoid the area.
According to Fox 61, police said the involved pedestrians were a mother and child, and they were in stable condition.

Police said the woman was pushing her child in a stroller when the incident occurred, according to NBC Connecticut. Police also said serious injuries were reported.
According to police, the vehicle involved in the accident fled from the scene but was identified by two witnesses, who provided a description to officers. The vehicle was later identified as a 2006 tan-colored Toyota Corolla, police said.
Police said the suspected vehicle was spotted by an officer in the area of Lamphere Drive, where it was stopped. The driver was taken into custody without incident and identified as 27-year-old Shane Bidwell of Waterford, police said.
Police said the accused was charged with assault with a motor vehicle, injury or risk of injury to children, reckless endangerment, driving while under the influence and evasion of responsibility in operation of a motor vehicle.
