Middle School Assistant Principal Resigns In Waterford: Officials

Administrators will begin a search for a replacement.

WATERFORD, CT — A local middle school assistant principal resigned in January, according to school officials.

Tomeka Howard, who served as assistant principal at Clark Lane Middle School, resigned as of Jan. 5, according to Superintendent of Schools Thomas Giard III.

Giard declined to comment further on Howard’s mid-school year resignation.

In a January letter to the Clark Lane Middle School community, Principal James Sachs said he will be working closely with central office administration in the coming weeks on a search for a replacement.

“We thank Mrs. Howard for her service to Clark Lane and the Waterford Public Schools,” Sachs said, in the letter.

Kelly White will be serving as interim assistant principal for the remainder of the academic year, he said.

Howard was originally appointed to the assistant principal position in August 2022, according to an announcement at the time. Howard had previously worked for school districts in Norwich, New Haven, and New London.

Howard is currently working as an educational consultant/coach and professional development facilitator, according to her LinkedIn profile.
