New Director of Recreation And Parks Appointed In Waterford

Ryan McNamara Appointed Director of Recreation and Parks

Ryan McNamara had recently served as Interim Director after the retirement of Brian Flaherty in October of 2022. Ryan was hired in 2004 as Assistant Director for the Recreation and Parks Department and served in that role until taking on the interim Director position.

“It’s a wonderful honor and responsibility for me that I don’t take lightly. I am committed to enhancing and diversifying the department’s recreational opportunities for all residents,” Ryan McNamara said in a statement posted on the town's website. “Recreation programs and the Town’s parks and beaches are places where residents have always gathered to improve their physical and emotional well-being. I will focus on post-pandemic community needs and increasing opportunities for social-engagement in healthy and creative ways.”

For the past eighteen years, Ryan oversaw various operations of the Recreation and Parks Department, including the development of the maintenance procedures and internal controls, Community Center openings and transitions, and work with various boards and committees supporting the growth of recreational services and community events in Waterford.

“Ryan’s knowledge of the department, familiarity with the Commission and our residents, positive work relationship with his team of staff and his commitment to the Town of Waterford, makes this a seamless and smooth transition. I am looking forward to working with Ryan and excited for the commission, the department and the town,” said First Selectman Rob Brule in a statement posted on the town's website.
