New Principal Appointed For Waterford Elementary School

School officials said a new principal has been appointed for Oswegatchie Elementary School in Waterford.

WATERFORD, CT — At the Waterford Board of Education Meeting on April 26, Joseph Macrino was appointed as the Principal of Oswegatchie Elementary School. Macrino will officially begin this new role with Waterford on July 1, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Christopher Ozmun.

Macrino brings a multitude of professional experiences in education to this new position with Waterford, according to a release. He holds a Sixth Year in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Haven, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Media Studies from Fordham University.

Macrino currently serves as the Assistant Principal of Lewin G. Joel Elementary School in Clinton. In that role, Macrino has built an academically engaging and emotionally supportive learning environment and was recently selected as the Connecticut Association of Schools 2018 Elementary School Assistant Principal of the Year.

Prior to this role, Macrino was a Teaching Assistant Principal at Southwest and Quaker Hill Elementary Schools and Director of Summer School for the Waterford Public Schools.

Colleagues and supervisors in Clinton remarked that Macrino “believes strongly in consensus building and collaboration…he has forged positive relationships with parents and other stakeholders, and is respected for his openness and professionalism.”

Others said he "possesses a strong moral compass, is an excellent listener, and is able to guide teams to make decisions with the best interest of children in mind. He maintains high expectations while ensuring that all members of the school community feel respected and valued.”

School officials said the entire search committee congratulates Macrino, and are confident he will be a great addition to the staff, students, and families of the Waterford Public Schools.

Officials also said Macrino is excited to join the Waterford team, and he looks forward to bringing his passion and talent as an educational leader to the Waterford school community.
