Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters Looking for Volunteers!
Seeking volunteers age 21 and up to serve as 1 on 1 mentor to youth in New London County

Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters offers community‐based, one‐to‐one mentoring to children throughout Connecticut.
BECOME A BIG BROTHER/BIG SISTER! A “Big” is a friend and role model, one who can make a powerful difference in a child's life. Mentored children are more likely to improve academic performance, stay in school, build positive relationships, avoid risky behaviors, and become responsible members of the community. Mentoring works!
COMMUNITY‐BASED PROGRAM: Bigs and Littles participate in activities for 6‐10 hours per month, individually and within the community, to build their relationship and encourage learning of new skills, role modeling, and new experiences. Bigs and Littles are asked to make a one year commitment.

HOW TO BECOME A "BIG": Volunteers complete a brief application and provide three references. Volunteers are interviewed, screened, and trained by Nutmeg BBBS. Bigs and Littles are matched based on common characteristics and interests. Mentors are provided with training on the role of a mentor, building a strong relationship, child development, behaviors and challenges, communication, and safety.
SUPPORT PROVIDED: Nutmeg BBBS provides monthly support to mentors and families. Support Coordinators ensure the match relationship is developing positively and help participants to handle issues and concerns that arise. Nutmeg BBBS and its participants are fully insured.
