Obituary: ​Carol I. McKeehan, 89, of Waterford

Carol I. McKeehan, wife of Frederick McKeehan, age 89 died following an accident in Salem on Friday evening.

A resident of Quaker Hill, she was active for many years with a variety of service organizations, including driving for the Cancer Society, serving on the board of directors of the Visiting Nurse Association and the Blind Society, working long hours at the New London Meal Center and distributing books and magazines to hospital patients and residents of nursing homes.

In addition to involvement in such organizations, she was most active on a one-on-one basis, showing warm compassion and devotion to many needy individuals in the community.

She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her husband and two children, Douglas in Oakland, California and Martha in Colchester and two granddaughters, Amy Wisehart in Maine and Alyssa Wisehart in New York State Born in Dunkirk, New York, she graduated from the University of Rochester as a Registered Nurse, then worked at Strong Memorial Hospital and as a social worker at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester.

When living in Ohio where her husband practiced medicine, she was instrumental in establishing Friendship House , a community center to help underprivileged minority children. She was always ready to give wise counsel and loving support to anyone in need. She has been an active member of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Waterford.

A Memorial Service will be held there at a date to be determined. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
