James A Archer, 81, of Quaker Hill, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Archer was born on March 9, 1935 in Brattleboro, VT the son of John and Fay Archer. He proudly attended Buckley High School and later graduated from New London High. From there he furthered his education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was first employed at Electric Boat before beginning a long career at the U.S. Naval Underwater Sound Laboratory in New London until his retirement in 1997.

Mr. Archer was a "jack of all trades" and could fix most anything. He especially liked to tinker with electronics and was always working on a project in his workshop. Throughout his life he was was an avid HAM radio operator and a member of the local radio club going by the call sign W1EOZ.
Mr. Archer is survived by his sons and their wives James and Petra Archer of Germany, and Kenneth and Jennifer Archer of Pawcatuck. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren Katherine, Kristen and Sandra. He was predecessor by his wives Barbara Archer and Eileen Archer.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. James Episcopal Church in New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, New London is handling the arrangements
