Obituary: Mildred R. Smith, 80, Of Waterford

Millie dedicated herself to her family and supported them in many ways. She loved the beach and was a good friend and neighbor.

Mildred R. Smith, 80, of Waterford, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Bayview Healthcare Center in Waterford. She was born in New London March 22, 1938, the daughter of Washington John Del Rabon and Beatrice Clark Rabon. She graduated from local schools and was a cheerleader for the new London High School.

During her childhood and teens, she performed an acrobatic act with her brother Bill at fairs and events in New England and New York. After high school, Millie attended Mitchell College in New London.

She married Vincent Margaraci and they had a daughter, Lori. Sadly, Vinnie passed away shortly after the birth of their daughter. Millie married Norman Smith some years later. Norman had two children from a previous marriage, Norman Jr. (Skip) and Nancy. Millie and Norman had a son William in 1965. Norman passed away in 1978.

Millie then began working at L&M hospital in the food service department. Tragedy struck again in 2002 when her son Bill passed away leaving a daughter Charlene. Millie dedicated herself to her family and supported them in many ways. She was involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Millie loved the beach, taking grandchildren to Chuckie Cheese, her cats and was a good friend and neighbor.

She was predeceased by her husbands Vincent Anthony Margaraci and Norman Smith. She is survived by a daughter Lori Levey of New London; brother William Rabon of Gales Ferry; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a son William in 2002.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home (12 Ocean Avenue, New London). Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service. Interment in Jordan Cemetery will be on a later date.
