Obituary: Robert James Conley, 99, of Waterford

Mr. Conley is a veteran, having served in the U. S. Army, Yankee Division, during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Robert James Conley, 99, of Waterford, Connecticut, died on February 11 after a brief illness and an exemplary life.

He was born December 23, 1917, in New London, Connecticut. He attended New London public schools and graduated from the Bulkeley School in 1937. Before World War II, he served in the CCC and worked for the WPA. After the war, he was employed by Aben Hardware and Kaplan Hardware; he then worked at Electric Boat, retiring after nearly 30 years.

Mr. Conley is a veteran, having served in the U. S. Army, Yankee Division, during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He married Cecelia Massad on April 10, 1948 at St. Ann Melkite Church in New London. She survives him, as do four daughters, Joan (Ned) Pendleton, Maureen (Walter) Sherwin, Roberta Conley, and Theresa Conley. He is also survived by four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by Fred and Maude Reid, who raised him; a brother, Warren Conley; and a sister, Mary Lasky.

Services will be private. Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London is assisting with the arrangements.
