Obituary: Zallee Farrar Amato, 91, of Waterford

WATERFORD - Zallee Virginia Daniels Farrar Amato of Waterford died December 13th at Beechwood Manor in New London.

Zallee was born on her family farm, known as the Ash Grove Farm on Vauxhall St. Ext in Waterford and is the daughter of Lincoln D. and Bessie Bliven Daniels. She attended the Cohanzie Elementry School and always spoke about how she loved that neighborhood school and her first teachers.

She graduated from the Williams Memorial Institute in 1941. She was a person who could quote verses from Shakespeare to A.A. Milne. She was drawn in addition to literature to music, art and poetry. All of her children and grandchildren have “birthday poems” penned by Zallee!

In 1943, Zallee married Clayton “Bud” Farrar. She is survived by their two sons; Bret (Greg) Farrar of Waterford and Kevin Farrar of Warren, VT, four grandchildren, Jonathan Farrar and his wife Isabelle, Sage Farrar Kealy and her husband John and Benjamin Farrar and Julia Farrar, her daughter-in-law, Linda Vogel and most recently became a great grandmother to Maya Elizabeth Farrar, daughter of Jonathan and Isabelle Farrar.

Zallee lost her husband Clayton Farrar and subsequently married Albert Amato in 1977 who died in 2013. She was pre-deceased by her beloved sister, Evelyn Strelcyzk who died in 2002 .She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church in New London.

Zallee had a lovely soprano voice which she added to the choir for many years. Babies were her specialty and she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always said she did not want to leave her babies.

She loved life and for many years sailed with Clayton Farrar out of Thames Yacht Club in New London. She adored swimming and the salt water, and was also an avid bird watcher and gardener. With Albert Amato she became a great story teller of the Verdi operas that she and Albert so loved. Her family extends their gratitude to the caring nurses and aides at Beechwood Manor and to Center for Hospice Care. She will be remembered with great love and respect by her extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, CT 06320. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 – 7 PM. Donations in her memory may be made to Center for Hospice Care, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360
