Police Identify CT Father Of 3 Children Shot Outside Home
Police said they have identified a father of three young children who was shot to death outside his Sprague home.

SPRAGUE, CT — Police said they have identified a father of three young children who was shot to death outside his Sprague home, according to media reports. The incident occurred Thursday night at approximately 11:55 p.m.
Police said 31-year-old Steven J. Devost sustained life threatening gun shot wounds in front of his Bay Street home, the Norwich Bulletin. He was subsequently taken to Backus Hostpital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Police said a family member revealed Devost was a father of three children, NBC Connecticut reported. The family member also said the victim was allegedly shot after going outside his home to investigate a loud bang.

Police said the incident was isolated and there is no further threat to anyone in town, according to Eyewitness News 3. Police have not yet revealed if anyone was home at the time of the shooting.

The incident left many residents of the small town shocked and frightened, as these types of incidents are uncommon in the area, Eyewitness News 3 reported.
The investigation has been taken over by detectives from Eastern District Major Crime, according to NBC Connecticut.
Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death, News 8 reported. State police will also be reviewing surveillance footage from nearby properties as part of the investigation.
