Police Warn Residents Of Email Scams: Waterford PD
According to police, email scams follow the same trends as phone scams that have been around for decades.
WATERFORD, CT — Waterford police said the department has received reports of residents receiving email-based scams. Some of these include reports of "knowing a secret" or having the user's "password" without any account information while looking to obtain cash or information from an unsuspecting victim, police said.
According to the department's Facebook page, email scams follow the same trends as phone scams that have been around for decades. Police urge residents not to reply to any unsolicited emails.
"Governmental agencies use traditional mail and provide specific information on how to contact them," police said on Facebook. "Please be vigilant in protecting your online identity and if you suspect you have been the victim of a scam and provided personal information, please contact the Waterford Police Department and speak with an officer."
