Rabid Raccoon Found in Waterford

Animal Control is urging residents to make sure your pet's rabies shots are up to date.

A raccoon that was killed by two dogs earlier in the week tested positive for rabies on Braman Road in Waterford, according to Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control.

“Please check your dog’s rabies shots,” Animal Control wrote via Facebook.

“The rabies virus infects the central nervous system, ultimately causing disease in the brain and death,” according to the CDC. “The early symptoms of rabies in people are similar to that of many other illnesses, including fever, headache, and general weakness or discomfort.”
