Red Cross Assisting Homeowner After Waterford House Fire
The Red Cross is helping a Waterford homeowner after a Sunday morning fire destroyed her Fog Plain Road home.

WATERFORD, CT—As the Red Cross says it is helping homeowner Debra Collett after fire destroyed her Fog Plain Road home in Waterford, fire officials said the two-story house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
Officials said Collett was at work at the the time of the Sunday morning blaze.

Waterford Fire Services Director Bruce Miller told The Day that given the location of the house, "set back from the road and up a small hill, neighbors didn’t notice the fire until flames were visible from the road."
So when firefighters arrived, after one resident was able to help with a correct address because they could "clearly then see the flames" called the fire in at 11:50 a.m. , the house was engulfed.

Crews were able to "knock down" the fire within 20 minutes, Miller told the paper.
According to fire department Facebook posts, all Waterford fire companies fought the fire and were joined by firefighters from nearby departments including Naval Submarine Base and New London.
The Red Cross provides personal care items and a "recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more."
