In the five years Frido the dog served on the Waterford Police force, he successfully located drugs in the community and tracked people, both missing persons and those who broke the law.

He searched in buildings, schools and other structures around town. The Waterford Police Department honored their partner Frido, who recently passed away.

“It is with sadness that the Waterford Police Department announces the passing of retired police K9 Frido,” police said via Facebook.

“The best part about Frido was that when he was at work, he was a great hardworking police K9,” they wrote. “When he left work, or had downtime, he was goofy and lovable, and very approachable by people, especially kids. His favorite after-hours activity was playing fetch, you’d tire out well before he would!”

Police extended their condolences to his handler, Lt. Stephen Bellos and his family, along with the family that Frido retired to, during this difficult time.
