Running Waterford Tradition: Jack O’Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race
2023 marks the 46th year for the annual 5k, 10k, and 1-mile Fun Run, Walk & Roll that helps support the work of Arc of Eastern CT.
WATERFORD, CT —The 46th Annual Jack O’Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race marks another year of one of Waterford's longest running traditions.
In Southeastern Connecticut, the Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race is among the longest running road races. First run in 1978, it's noted that the event was often referred to as a 'happening' owing to the huge number of runners, "families and colorful characters, many in Halloween costumes, who came together for the event."
The race is a tribute to Jack O'Keefe, Sr., the first Seaside Regional Center recreation director. He organized the inaugural race.
