Several Restaurants At Waterford Mall Food Court Close: Report

Charleys Philly Steaks is one of several restaurants that have closed at the Crystal Mall food court.

WATERFORD, CT — Several restaurants have left the Crystal Mall food court recently, according to The Day. Charleys Philly Steaks closed on Dec. 31.

Subway, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell also closed. Dairy Queen/Orange Julius and Wok Express remain open.

The Crystal Mall was sold in an online auction for $9 million in May to Namdar Realty Group. The company owns 289 retail properties, including the Enfield Square Mall and the Meriden Mall.

Now with an occupancy rate of less than 65 percent, the shopping mall was once a busy mecca for a number of generations. Closings of anchor stores like Macy's and Bed, Bath & Beyond have affected the mall's business in recent years.

Located at 850 Hartford Turnpike in Waterford, the mall was built in 1984 with additional construction in 1987. The two-story, 535,494-square-foot mall sits on 82 acres.

On the mall's website, it states that the Crystal Mall is the "only regional mall within a 50-mile radius."

According to the May auction listing, the mall features an "anchor lineup including JCPenney (91,588 SF, owned), Christmas Tree Shops (subletting a portion of the former Bed Bath & Beyond space, 80,892 SF, owned), a former Macy’s (121,270 SF, non-owned, dark) and a Seritage-owned box (150,632 SF, non-owned, dark)..."
