Sports Report: Waterford Softball, Baseball Dominate

Both Teams Stay Hot With Softball Team Crushing Three Opponents

Waterford High School’s baseball and softball teams stayed hot this week, with the softball team steamrolling several opponents.

The Waterford High School softball team defeated Coventry last Wednesday, 13-2, and Griswold the next day, 13-0. The team did finally lose a game 2-1 on Saturday to Rockville, but then came back Tuesday to defeat Woodstock 16-0. The lady Lancers are now 7-1, and have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 88 to 10.

The baseball team is off to a strong start as well, and won three games this week. The team beat Lyman Memorial on Wednesday 3-2, defeated Montville on Friday 3-2 and beat Woodstock on Tuesday 7-0. That brings the high school team’s record to an impressive 6-1.

The Waterford High School boys’ lacrosse team easily defeated St. Bernard last Thursday, 11-1, and RHAM on Saturday, 9-8, before losing to Stonington at home on Tuesday, 3-4. The team is now 4-3. Their female counterparts meanwhile defeated St. Bernard on Thursday, 11-7, to bring their record to 3-3.

The high school boys’ tennis team lost their first match of the season Friday to East Lyme, 4-3. The team is now 4-1. The girls tennis team is now 4-2, after losing to East Lyme on Friday, 4-3, and then defeating Fitch on Monday, 5-2.
