State Arts Awards!

Two Waterford High School students were recognized at the annual Connecticut Association of Schools High School Fine Arts Awards Recognition Banquet on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. Acacia McDowell (visual arts) and Nathaniel Ross (music) were selected by the Waterford High arts faculty to represent Waterford High School at this prestigious event.

The Connecticut High School Fine Arts Awards annually honors two outstanding seniors from each of the member schools in the state who excel in the performing or visual arts. They must possess the qualities of scholarship and leadership. Excelling in the performing or visual arts is of primary importance in the selection. Scholarship and Leadership are also supporting criteria.

Acacia and Nathaniel are both seniors at Waterford High. Acacia plans to attend Southern New Hampshire University to major in psychology. Nathaniel is also a senior and has not yet decided where he will attend college. He is currently leaning toward either Tufts University or Vassar College. He has not decided on a major area of study. He is undecided about that also. At the time that this article was written, Nathaniel has narrowed it down to either music or international relations.

The Connecticut Association of Schools High School Fine Arts Awards Recognition Banquet is made possible with support from Jostens. Jostens’ sponsorship of the Fine Arts Recognition Banquet exemplifies its mission statement, “Supporting your mission is our Mission. We take great care in passionately helping people express themselves, celebrate experiences and traditions, recognize achievements and share their stories.”
