It will cost you. Waterford Police issued this 'back to school' reminder to motorists.

The Waterford Police Department issued a ‘back to school’ reminder to anyone passing through town — police will be enforcing speed limits and observing traffic near school bus stops.

The first day of school for Waterford students is Wednesday, August 27.

Police will be enforcing speed limits in and around schools and monitoring traffic near bus stops. They took the time to remind people that if anyone is thinking of passing a stopped school bus, the fine for doing so is $465.

Traveling between one to 9 mph over the posted speed limit in a school zone equates to a $232 fine.

Beyond 9 mph, the fines range depending on speed, but can be as high as $396, police said.

“Kids will be walking to and standing at bus stops all over town,” police said. “School buses will again be out and after a few months of not seeing them, please make sure to look out for them and prepare to stop as they make pick-ups and drop-offs.”
