US’s Oldest State Trooper, 99, Dies In Waterford
John Swicklas, believed to have been the oldest living former state trooper, died in Greentree Manor in Waterford on July 7.
John Swicklas, who was the oldest living retired Connecticut trooper and was believed to be the oldest living retired trooper for any state, died on July 7 in Waterford at the age of 99.
Swicklas became a Connecticut State Trooper in 1942, and retired in 1962. In 1950, he was awarded the Connecticut State Police’s highest award for bravery for his part in a shoot-out, according to his obituary.
Swicklas lived primarily in Montville, but died in in Waterford. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 67 years, Helen K. (Guida) Swicklas.
