Waterford Boys Begin Title Defense With Victory

Basketball team defeats East Lyme in overtime to begin its season.

Wednesday, the Waterford High School boys’ basketball team withstood a late rally by rival East Lyme to win its first game of the season.

East Lyme was down 15 in the fourth quarter, but came back to take a three-point lead, according to The Bulletin. However, Ryan Brower hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to play to force overtime, where the Lancers won 64-60, according to The Bulletin.

The Lancers won the Class M championship last year to earn Waterford’s first state championship in boys’ basketball. Danny Martin led the Lancers with 25 points, and Schneider Jean-Pierre added another 10, according to The Bulletin.

Wrestling

It wasn’t all good news though. The Waterford High School wrestling team lost its first match of the season Wednesday night to Montville, 40-27.

Lancer Justin Lindblom did win his 145-pound match, 15-0, according to The Bulletin.
