Waterford Facility Fined For Mishandling Suicidal Patient

A local nursing home was fined by the state for its response to a suicidal patient, according to a report.

WATERFORD, CT - A local health care facility has been fined by the state for allegedly mishandling a patient who made suicidal comments in July. According to Connecticut Health I-Team Greentree Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterford was fined $9,660 by the state Department of Public Health.

The resident involve in the incident was not harmed. However, DPH said the staff was not checking the resident every 15 minutes until two days after the doctor had required them to.

Connecticut Health I-Team also reported that a nurse's aide failed to tell a supervisor about the resident's suicidal comments until two hours after the incident.

A Greentree administrator wouldn't comment on the specific case but said the facility was in "substantial compliance" with state regulations.
