WATERFORD, CT — On May 17, the Waterford Fire Department (WFD) received a second grant for the 2022 award cycle by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Fire Prevention and Safety Grant (FP&S) in the amount of $23,700, was given to implement programs to attain WFD’s mission of resident safety through education as part of their Community Risk Reduction plan.

The proposed project, “Big or Small, Fire Safety is for ALL!” will be the cornerstone of the WFD’s ongoing Fire Prevention and Life Safety educational platform. The grant funds will be used towards innovative tools such as an ADA compliant Inflatable Fire Education House for community events and a Hazard House and Kitchen for small classroom settings both promoting low-risk behavior. These new simulations and props will provide WFD’s Community Safety Educator and Fire personnel the needed resources to continue the mission of keeping Waterford residents safe while focusing on the most vulnerable populations.
