Waterford Man Killed In CT River Boating Accident: Report

A man was killed and several others were injured in a boating accident over the weekend.

WATERFORD, CT — The man killed in a boating accident that left multiple others injured on Sunday has been identified. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said Wayne Hamler, 60, of Waterford, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WTNH News-8.

The boating accident left a 45-year-old woman in critical condition. A 6-year-old boy is in serious but stable condition, and two other adults are in stable condition.

The boat's other occupants have been treated and released, WTNH News-8 reported.

The boating accident occurred on the Connecticut River in Portland on Sunday evening just before 7 p.m., according to The Hartford Courant. A total of eight people were on the boat, including two children.

NBC CT reported that the 21-foot Yamaha jet boat crashed into rocks on the bank of the river, just north of Petzold's Marina. The DEEP is investigating the cause of the accident.
