Waterford Mourns Loss Of Veteran Police Officer

WATERFORD, CT — A Waterford police officer died by suicide Monday afternoon in Preston, according to The New London Day. Adam Lapkowski, 37, lived in Uncasville and joined the department in 2009.

Waterford Police Chief Marc Balestracci said that Lapkowski was "a great person. He was one of our finest officers who was highly respected, well liked and incredibly skilled," The New London Day reported. He was Waterford's Policeman of the Year in 2019.

The police department wrote on Facebook: "As many are hearing, our agency suffered a tremendous loss this week. To be honest, the past few days have been incredibly difficult."

The department thanked "all of those who have offered incredible amounts of support in various ways over the past few days. From law enforcement, local businesses, concerned citizens and others. You have helped more than you will ever know."
