Waterford, New London Men Arrested In 2011 Home Invasion, Kidnapping, Assault Case

The Waterford Police worked with the New London County Cold Case Unit in an investigation of the 2011 case.

On Monday, Sept. 29, members of the Waterford Police Department, working in conjunction with members of the New London County Cold Case Unit, arrested two people in connection with a 2011 home invasion investigation.

Benjamin D. Stavens, 23, of 40 Gorton Street First Floor New London, was arrested on the following charges:

  • Conspiracy to commit Home Invasion
  • Conspiracy to commit Burglary 3rd Degree
  • Conspiracy to commit Assault 2nd Degree
  • Conspiracy to commit Kidnapping 1st Degree

Matthew J. Hamler, 25, of 49 Beacon Hill Rd., Waterford, was arrested on the following charges:

  • Conspiracy to commit Home Invasion
  • Conspiracy to commit Burglary 3rd Degree
  • Conspiracy to commit Assault 2nd Degree
  • Conspiracy to commit Kidnapping 1st Degree

Both were arrested pursuant to active arrest warrants held by Waterford Police. The arrest warrants were issued in connection with an extensive investigation of the 2011 incident in Waterford.

Both Hamler and Stavens knew the victim in the incident, according to Waterford Police.

“Waterford Police expects to make an additional arrest in connection with the investigation,” according to a press release from the department.

Stavens was held on $150,000.00 bond pending bail or arraignment. Hamler was released on a $150,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court G.A. #10 in New London on Friday, Oct. 10.
