WATERFORD, CT – The Waterford Police Department recently established a volunteer chaplain unit, The Day reported.
The unit is meant to help police deliver bad news in a gentle manner, according to The Day. The unit currently consists of four local pastors that will be on hand to support officers through tough times.
Duties for the unit include breaking news to families that a member has died, The Day reported. The chaplains will be on call 24/7 and work weekend rotations.
