Waterford Road Work And Construction Cause Significant Delays
Construction of I-395 bridge and paving of Route 156 are important infrastructure projects but are causing heavy traffic and long delays.

WATERFORD, CT—Motorists were warned but the reality on a Monday at 7 a.m. on Route 85 in Waterford is a real wake-up call. Waterford Police first alerted residents more than a week ago that beginning July 19 through July 29, a full 10 days, that they should expect very heavy delays on 85 and I-395 Southbound as bridge replacement work would commence.

The project is underway now and the effects while felt over the weekend, morning commuters were greeted with standstill traffic.
Police an "urgent road closure notice" advising "heavy delays," so some say it should come as no surprise that well, Route 85 was backed up Monday morning.

Police had suggested motorists use alternative routes to get to their destinations warning there'd be significant impact to travel through this area for the duration of the construction.
Connecticut State Police Troop E also altered motorists about the traffic delays.
Meanwhile, paving on Route 156 is another headache for some, but after the paving is completed, it'll be smooth sailing.
Police wrote that Rope Ferry Road, aka Route 156, is being paved this week. Crews are scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m.to 3:30 p.m.
Waterford Police said officers will be assisting with traffic control, "however you should expect heavy delays."
So here too, folks need to be creative with their travels.
"If able to use an alternate route, please do so. There are quite a few ways around Rte 156 in town and you will likely have a less stressful drive if you go one of those ways," police wrote. And then thanked people for their patience.
