Waterford Selectmen Approve $200K Emergency Reserve For Water System

WATERFORD, CT — The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved an additional $200,000 appropriation for a new emergency capital reserve for the town's water distribution system during its Aug. 18 meeting.

The request came from Director of Utilities Jill Stevens and establishes a Water Distribution System Emergency Capital Reserve for fiscal year 2027 using money identified in the General Fund balance. Selectman Rich Muckle made the motion, which Selectman Greg Attanasio seconded. First Selectman Robert Brule, Muckle and Attanasio voted in favor, 3-0.

The board also voted 2-1 to declare a 2016 Toro Groundsmaster 10-foot mower surplus property. The Recreation and Parks Department equipment, which had logged 1,997 engine hours, had outlived its usefulness to the town and was replaced under the Fleet Management Plan, according to the meeting minutes.

Muckle moved to approve the surplus designation and Attanasio seconded the motion. Brule and Muckle voted in favor, while Attanasio voted against it.

The board also considered a Recreation and Parks recommendation to award Tom Irwin Inc. a contract for grass seed and fertilizers for fiscal 2027 through a cooperative purchasing arrangement.

As part of its consent agenda, the board unanimously approved a $5,952.83 tax refund and the minutes of its Aug. 4 regular meeting. Muckle made the motion, seconded by Attanasio, and the measure passed 3-0.

No public comments were made at the meeting, and the board listed no new or old business.

Brule, Muckle and Attanasio attended the meeting, which began at 5 p.m. at Waterford Town Hall. The board unanimously adjourned at 5:36 p.m.
