Little League Team Undefeated; Babe Ruth Team Eliminated As Both Compete In Regional Tournament

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

After winning , the Waterford 14-year-old Babe Ruth team was eliminated from the regional tournament by Cranston, RI Monday night, losing 7-6. Waterford had beaten of the tournament, but blew a six-run lead Monday night, capped by a walk-off hit by Cranston’s James Sweeney in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The team ends the season as the fourth-ranked team in New England. The tournament was held in Westfield, Mass.

Meanwhile, in Cranston, RI, has won its first two games in the regional tournament.

In the first game on Saturday, Waterford held on to beat Maine’s Saco Little League 3-2, thanks to strong defense and clutch pitching. And on Sunday, Waterford rolled, crushing New Hampshire 19-2, thanks to a 16-run third-inning.

The boys play again tonight at 7:30.
