Winter Storm Watch in Effect For Thanksgiving Week in CT

A winter storm watch is in effect, from the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Thanksgiving morning, according to the National Weather Service.

“This storm will significantly impact holiday travel… making driving dangerous at times,” the NWS said in its winter storm watch notice.

“Anyone traveling in the next 24 to 36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify travel plans should winter weather develop,” NWS staff said.

Here are the specifics for Connecticut’s weather during Thanksgiving week, per the NWS.

  • The snow could be heavy at times, especially Wednesday night
  • Total snow accumulation is somewhere between 6 and 10 inches
  • Specifically: Snow of 6 or more inches in a 12-hour period or 8 or more inches in a 24-hour period
  • Rain and snow Wednesday morning, switching to all snow on Wednesday afternoon
  • Maximum snowfall rates: Up to three inches an hour
  • Winds will be 5 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph
  • Temperatures: 20s to lower 30s
