Ye Antientist Burial Ground Walking Tour is Sunday
Join New London City Historian Sally Ryan and NAACP President Jean Jordan at 2 p.m.
The Hempsted Houses and the NAACP New London Branch are teaming up Sunday, Oct. 18, to offer a walking tour of Ye Antientist Burial Ground, one of New England’s earliest graveyards.
The tour, which starts at 2 p.m., will have a special focus on the African-Americans buried at the graveyard. The burying ground is located in New London at the intersection of Hempstead and Granite streets. The earliest graves date to 1652.
The walk will be led by Sally Ryan, New London’s municipal historian, and Jean Jordan, president of the NAACP New London Branch. Proceeds will benefit both organizations.
