We’re looking to have a great day of golf while offering our support for a local military charity.

A message from the president...
Hoping you had an enjoyable summer; how did it escape so quickly? If you have taken a trip to the Memorial, you might have seen work being done on the brick paved walkway. This summer our stone paved Ceremonial and Entrance Plazas were installed. Engraved bricks purchased by supporters were placed in front of the three flagpoles but we have room for many more as our “Buy A Brick” campaign continues due to the generosity of former committee member Nancy Rousselle. She has generously agreed to take on this responsibility from Diane DeLuzio who did a wonderful job with the campaign to date. Thank you Diane and Nancy!

More this year…. Twelve sponsored benches are currently being assembled and will be installed soon in various locations between the hero trees. We truly appreciate every dollar donated. Our committee will permanently recognize monetary and in-kind donors and volunteers who have substantially donated or given their time to realizing the Memorial. Ten star patterned designs will be added to the “Donor Walkway” and engraved bricks with donor/volunteer names will be added to each appropriate star by giving level. Finally, twelve long-awaited replacement Okame Cherry trees will be installed in the next few weeks.

What’s missing? Due to lack of funds at this time, we regretfully are not able to complete the design for the Entrance or Flag Ceremonial Plazas as shown in the: NEWSLETTER. We are hoping that with generous donations and a few miracles, we will have funding by early spring to continue construction and complete the designs for each in time for the Dedication planned for September 17, 2016.

How can you help? Do you know a bricklayer or stonemason? We would love to have donations of masonry talent to help complete the Memorial design. Do you have a green thumb? We would like to add gardens next spring in the Memorial area. Scout troops, service clubs, vo-ag students, church/synagogue groups, individuals interested in planning and maintaining gardens are welcome to contact us.

Lastly, our committee would like to thank the ‘Watering Team’ of Trevor Lavergne (veteran), Dennis McKenna, Peter Torres and Frank Green (veteran) for their diligence and dedication in coming to the Memorial and filling all the hero tree gators this hot, dry summer two-three times per week. Thank you Team! A huge Thank You also to Brian Young who has pitched in and helped – raise and lower the flags, open the storage garage, off-load occasional deliveries, store supplies for CTHM and more. Thank you Brian for your cooperation and courtesy in assisting us!

As we transition from summer to fall, may you each find joy and appreciation in the beauty of the changing leaves, the cool breezes, and the bounty of the harvest season……. as well as football and fall fairs, apple cider and pumpkins!
Sincerely,
Sue
