WEST HARTFORD, CT — Just 14 months after opening in Blue Back Square, the Skeleton Key Adventure Emporium has announced it will be closing at the end of business Sunday, Oct. 6. The entertainment venue has billed itself as "the only escape room company in New England to combine a bar and lounge with premium escape rooms."

Skeleton Key's location in Lynnfield, Mass. is also closing, according to this announcement posted on its Facebook page and website, as well as in an email to its mailing list:

"We regret to inform our valued customers that both locations of Skeleton Key will be closing as of Sunday, October 6th, 2019 (we will be open on the 6th through our last available game). We want to thank all of our managers, staff, and loyal customers who have joined us for any and all of our three games over the past year. You all made this journey possible, and even though it is ending sooner than we would have liked, we appreciate your patronage and support nonetheless. If you haven't played all of our games yet, be sure to stop in by Sunday to do so and say goodbye! Note: All post-dated reservations have been contacted by a member of our customer service team and will be fully refunded. All gift cards must be used by 10/6! Please contact info@skeleton-key.com with any questions."

Three games were featured at the West Hartford site, which opened in July 2018: "Virus: Humanity Is On a Deadline", in which participants raced to cure a global pandemic; "Scarab: Wishes Never Die", which featured a pyramid containing a mummy in ancient Egypt; and "Starry Night: Thievery Is An Art Form", in which visitors attempted to steal one of Vincent Van Gogh's most famous paintings from a London art museum.
