WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Amelia Classical Music Series, in collaboration with the Town of West Hartford, will present “America 250: Belonging — A Celebration in Song” on Saturday, April 25, as part of the town’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The concert is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Flagg Road United Church of Christ, 134 Flagg Road.
Organizers say the program explores themes of identity, heritage, and belonging, reflecting on resilience, inclusivity, and community as part of the broader America 250 initiative.
The performance will feature an all-female ensemble of vocalists, including soprano Meredith Hansen, Madison Marie McIntosh, and Zhanna Alkhazova. Pianist Blake Hansen will accompany the singers.
The program will combine operatic works by composers such as Giacomo Puccini and Giuseppe Verdi with American songs highlighting immigrant experiences and underrepresented voices.
According to organizers, the concert is intended to present “a compelling musical journey” that connects traditional opera with contemporary cultural narratives.
The event is supported by West Hartford’s America 250 Committee, as well as local sponsors including Russian School of Mathematics, Solinsky Eye Care, and Duncaster.
Founded by Alkhazova, the Amelia Classical Music Series is a West Hartford–based nonprofit focused on bringing professional musicians to the area through small-scale performances and community engagement. Now in its third season, the organization continues expanding its local presence and outreach efforts.
The April 25 concert is expected to run approximately 75 to 90 minutes. Parking is free and available on site.
Tickets are available online through the organization’s website at this link.
