Dump Your Old Drugs At Special West Hartford Collection Event

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Residents in West Hartford will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25.

The West Hartford Police Department, working with the West Hartford Bloomfield Health District and the West Hartford Prevention Partnership, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the West Hartford Town Hall parking lot, 50 S. Main St.

Community members can anonymously drop off expired, unwanted, or unused medications.

Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter tablets, capsules, liquids, and vaping products.

Officials said vaping devices and e-cigarettes will only be accepted if lithium-ion batteries are removed beforehand; devices with non-removable batteries will not be accepted and should instead be taken to a retailer that recycles such batteries.

Certain items will not be collected, including intravenous solutions, injectable medications, EpiPens, and needles.

Officials recommend removing pills from prescription bottles before disposal and placing them in sealed plastic bags.

All materials collected during the event will be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, organizers said.
