The program, titled “High-Potency Marijuana Products and Teen Mental Health: What Every Parent Needs to Know,” is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bristow Middle School.

West Hartford Public Schools and the West Hartford Prevention Partnership are hosting the event.

The event will feature Laura Stack, founder and CEO of Johnny’s Ambassadors, a nonprofit that educates families about the effects of high-THC cannabis on adolescent brain development, mental illness, and suicide risk.

Stack, once known in business circles as “The Productivity Pro,” shifted her focus to youth drug prevention after the death of her son in 2019. According to event materials, her 19-year-old son died by suicide after experiencing psychosis linked to high-THC marijuana concentrates.

In her presentations, Stack emphasizes the potential effects of modern high-potency THC products on developing brains, including increased risks of mental illness and suicidal thoughts.

The event is open to parents, community members, and other concerned adults. Registration is required.

Organizers said the program is being offered in West Hartford through a private community donation.
