Organizers said advance registration is required, and attendance is limited to 45 participants.

The program will be led by Westmoor tree naturalist Bill Gleason, who helped create the Westmoor Arboretum and authored the park’s self-guided arboretum tour materials.

According to organizers, the tour will focus on how different tree species flower and leaf out during the spring season.

Participants will explore the varying growth strategies of species including red maples and sourwood trees, as well as the role flowers, fruit, and emerging leaves play in seasonal changes.

The walk will begin near the wagon in the central area of the park by the main parking lot.

Officials said the tour will move to Sunday at the same time in the event of steady rain.

Organizers also said additional summer and fall tree tours are planned later this year.

Registration is available through the West Hartford RecDesk system at this link.
