West Hartford Officially An 'Age-Friendly' Community: Officials

West Hartford residents are invited to take a survey shaping future age-friendly community improvements.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford has officially joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, town officials announced this week.

The designation recognizes communities committed to improving services and infrastructure that support residents as they age, including housing, transportation, health care access, and social connection.

West Hartford plans to host a public launch event and certificate presentation on Tuesday, May 19, at 12:30 p.m. at the Bishops Corner Senior Center.

During the event, AARP representatives will present the town and Mayor Shari Cantor with an official Certificate of Recognition.

Registration is required for the event.

As part of the initiative, the town has launched a community-wide survey to gather resident feedback on issues affecting quality of life and aging in place.

Officials said the survey will help guide future planning and identify strengths and areas for improvement across several topics, including housing, transportation, financial well-being, health services, safety and social engagement.

The survey is available through June 15 online, at West Hartford Town Hall, and at the town's local senior centers.

Town officials said the effort is intended to help West Hartford become “a stronger, more inclusive, and more age-friendly” community for residents of all ages.

Residents seeking additional information or accommodations related to the survey may contact the town’s Age-Friendly Community initiative at AFC@westhartfordct.gov or 860-561-8172. They can also reach the town’s ADA coordinator, Suzanne Oslander, at SuzanneO@westhartfordct.gov or 860-561-7580.

To register for the program on Tuesday, May 19, call 860-561-7583 or e-mail WHSC@westhartfordct.gov.
