WEST HARTFORD, CT — An internationally recognized filmmaker and University of Connecticut professor will lead a free smartphone filmmaking workshop in West Hartford later this week.
The one-day “Filmmaking with Smartphones” workshop is scheduled for Friday, May 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Room 400 at West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St.
It is being hosted by West Hartford Community Interactive. This local nonprofit operates a West Hartford-based public access channel that puts town meetings/events online and on public access cable.
The session will be led by Dr. Zeljko Mirkovic, an award-winning documentary director and producer whose work has earned 139 international awards and includes two Oscar-qualified documentaries.
Organizers said the hands-on workshop is designed for participants of all experience levels, including students, educators, content creators, and aspiring storytellers.
The workshop will focus on practical filmmaking techniques using smartphones, including story development, visual storytelling, directing, framing, lighting, and video editing.
Participants will learn how to create short films using minimal equipment while gaining experience shooting high-quality video with mobile devices.
The event also ties into the broader theme of celebrating 250 years of U.S. independence through storytelling.
Admission is free, but registration is required. Organizers said space is limited.
