WEST HARTFORD, CT — Playhouse on Park will continue its Theatre for Young Audiences series this spring with performances of the musical A Year with Frog and Toad, based on Arnold Lobel’s classic children’s books.
The production, directed by Kevin Cronin, features a book and lyrics by Willie Reale and music by Robert Reale. The musical earned three Tony Award nominations during its Broadway run.
The story follows the friendship between Frog and Toad as they experience adventures throughout the changing seasons, from gardening in the spring to sledding in the winter. Organizers said the production combines humor, music, and storytelling while emphasizing themes of friendship and individuality.
Public performances are scheduled for Saturdays, May 23, May 30, and June 6 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m., along with a Wednesday, June 3 performance at 3 p.m.
A sensory-friendly performance is planned for Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m.
In addition to public shows, Playhouse on Park said more than 5,000 students are expected to attend weekday Literature Alive field trip performances.
The production is recommended for children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, though organizers said the themes are intended to appeal to audiences of all ages.
Tickets are priced at $25, plus a $3.50 service fee. Discounts are available for seniors and students.
The production is supported by The Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation, the Greater Hartford Regional School Choice Office, and the Miracle League of Connecticut.
