WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford community members will gather this week for the town’s second annual Eid Celebration at Blue Back Square.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Blue Back Square, 60 Isham Road, and will feature international food, cultural performances, family activities, shopping and community programming, according to organizers. The official date of the holiday is Wednesday, May 27.
A rain date for the festival is scheduled for June 12.
Organizers encouraged attendees to wear cultural attire and participate in what they described as “a joyful day of community, culture and celebration.”
The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available at West Hartford Town Hall.
Eid is a major religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide and is commonly marked with communal gatherings, meals and cultural traditions.
Organizers said the celebration aims to bring together residents and families from across the community.
Eid refers to Eid al-Adha (the "Festival of Sacrifice"), which is the second major Islamic holiday of the year.
It marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son out of obedience to God.
