West Hartford School Chief's Contract Extended, Pay Increased

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town's top appointed school official appears to be staying in town a bit longer.

The West Hartford Board of Education unanimously approved a three-year contract renewal for West Hartford Superintendent of Schools Paul Vicinus during a special meeting on June 16.

The board voted 5-0 following a more than two-hour executive session to extend Vicinus' contract from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029.

Under the agreement, the board approved a 2.78% increase to Vicinus' base salary and an additional $2,100 in compensation to be divided equally between his two existing retirement accounts.

According to district records, Vicinus' annual salary will increase from $247,165 to $254,036 under the approved raise.

The meeting began at 6:40 p.m. with Board Chairperson Shannon Marimón, Secretary Jason Gagnon, board members Miriam Bleich and Ethan Goldman, and Vicinus present.

Board member Jonathan Weiner arrived at 6:45 p.m. Vice Chair LaToya Yagaloff was absent.

The board entered executive session at 6:40 p.m. to discuss the superintendent's employment, performance, and evaluation, as permitted under Connecticut General Statutes Section 1-200(6)(A).

Members also voted to invite Vicinus into the executive session.

The board returned to public session at 9 p.m.

Following the executive session, Gagnon motioned to renew the superintendent's contract.

Weiner seconded the motion, which passed unanimously, 5-0.

Bleich, Gagnon, Goldman, Marimón, and Weiner voted in favor.

No members voted against the measure.
