When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire coming from a third-floor window of a three-story single-family home, the WHFD said in a release.

The on-duty shift commander upgraded the incident to a working fire, bringing additional fire units to the scene and activating mutual aid coverage for West Hartford fire stations.

Fire crews confirmed the blaze had spread from the third floor into the attic, the WHFD said.

Firefighters launched a coordinated interior attack while conducting a primary search of the residence, according to authorities.

Officials said all occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. No civilian injuries were reported.

The bulk of the fire was extinguished within minutes, and the incident was declared under control at 4:31 p.m.

According to the fire department, damage was limited to the third floor and attic, although the home sustained significant water damage throughout.

The residence was deemed uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to the WHFD.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal's Office.

The West Hartford Fire Department thanked the West Hartford Police Department, AMR, and the UConn Fire Department for assisting at the scene.

The Hartford and Newington fire departments provided station and town coverage while West Hartford crews remained committed to the incident.
