West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District: Update School Vaccinations Before Fall

WEST HARTFORD/BLOOMFIELD, CT — The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District is encouraging parents to make sure their children are up to date on Connecticut's required school immunizations before the start of the new school year.

The health district said staying current on vaccinations helps protect students, classmates, family members and the broader community from vaccine-preventable diseases while avoiding delays in school registration.

According to the district, Connecticut requires certain immunizations for school attendance. Officials say keeping vaccination records up to date can help prevent interruptions as students return to the classroom.

The health district recommends that parents:

• Review their child's vaccination records.
• Contact their child's school to confirm immunization requirements.
• Schedule an appointment if any vaccines are needed.
• Bring their child's immunization record to the appointment, if available.

The district also encourages families who need assistance to contact its office. Staff can review immunization records, determine whether vaccines are due, answer questions and schedule vaccination appointments before school begins.

Officials note that appointments tend to fill quickly in the weeks leading up to the start of the school year.

Back-To-School Immunization Clinic

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District will hold a back-to-school immunization clinic on Wednesday, Aug. 19, offering all Connecticut school-required vaccines for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The clinic will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the health district's office, 580 Cottage Grove Road, Suite 100, Bloomfield.

Health district officials encourage parents to reserve an appointment by calling 860-561-7900, though walk-in patients will also be accepted.

The clinic will provide all vaccines required for school attendance in Connecticut, helping families prepare for the start of the new academic year.

Children who receive a vaccine during the clinic will also receive a stuffed bumblebee while supplies last.
