West Hartford To Receive Nearly $1M To Replace Bridge In Town

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford will receive nearly $1 million in state funding to help replace a local bridge as part of Connecticut's latest round of municipal infrastructure grants.

Gov. Ned Lamont and Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto announced this week that $16.8 million in grants will be awarded to 11 municipalities through the State Local Bridge Program, supporting the reconstruction of 13 locally owned bridges across Connecticut.

West Hartford is slated to receive $978,075 to replace Bridge No. 155014, which carries Old Brook Road over Mountain Farms Brook.

State Sen. Derek Slap, D-West Hartford, welcomed the funding announcement.

"The safety of our local infrastructure is vital for our communities, but its cost can be challenging for municipalities to meet, making this state support hugely beneficial," Slap said. "I'm grateful to Governor Lamont and state leaders for their commitment to our state and our communities."

The grants cover 50% of eligible bridge reconstruction costs, with municipalities responsible for managing the design and construction of the projects.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation oversees project milestones and provides technical guidance.

"Whether it's kids going to school, people heading to work, or traveling to visit friends and family, every community depends on bridges that are safe and built to last," Lamont said. "This grant program provides significant relief to our towns and cities, helping them tackle costly infrastructure projects they couldn't take on alone."

Eucalitto said the program helps municipalities move projects from planning to construction while improving safety and reliability.

The State Local Bridge Program was established by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1984 to help municipalities maintain and replace locally owned bridges. Connecticut has approximately 4,200 municipal bridges and culverts, and the program has awarded about $180 million in grants since 2016.
