West Hartford Reaches Out To Local Nepalese Community After Deadly Floods (patch.com) — West Hartford officials are publicly supporting the town's large Nepalese community as catastrophic floods and mudslides devastate parts of Nepal and Tibet, killing hundreds and leaving many missing. Mayor Shari Cantor acknowledged the deep personal impact on local families with ties to the region and pledged to share information on credible relief efforts as the situation evolves.
2. West Hartford Symphony to Host Chamber Cabaret - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — West Hartford Symphony Orchestra is planning a "Chamber Cabaret" benefit at Town Hall on Sept. 19, introducing new music director Dr. John R. "Rusty" Koenig. The concert launches the 2026–27 season and follows the retirement of longtime founder and conductor Maestro Richard Chiarappa, offering residents a first look at the orchestra's next chapter.
3. Elevator Rescue Training means a lot of moving parts for West Hartford firefighters (fox61.com) — West Hartford firefighters are undergoing intensive elevator rescue training as more multi-story apartment buildings and complex elevator systems appear around town. Using a Farmington Avenue building, crews are practicing rope, confined-space, and medical skills so they're ready when residents get stuck and need a safe, efficient rescue.

Community Celebrates Joy, Connection, and Access to Sports with 2-4-1 Sports - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — West Hartford residents recently packed the Pond House in Elizabeth Park for 2-4-1 Sports' Play It Forward fundraiser, raising more than $53,000 to expand youth sports and social-emotional programs. The evening honored local advocate Stephanie Blozy and highlighted how the Hartford-based nonprofit is using sports to build confidence, connection, and life skills for thousands of kids across the region.
5. Greenwich students start academic year in a brand-new, 125,000-square-foot Central Middle School (nhregister.com) — West Hartford students quietly get a nod in this statewide back-to-school roundup, which notes they returned to class Wednesday along with several other districts. The main focus is Greenwich's new 125,000-square-foot Central Middle School and statewide changes like free school breakfast, possible cellphone limits, and proposed rules on classroom screen time.
