• West Hartford Reaches Out To Local Nepalese Community After Deadly Floods (patch.com) — West Hartford officials are publicly supporting the town's large Nepalese community after catastrophic flooding and mudslides in Nepal and Tibet killed hundreds and left many missing. Mayor Shari Cantor acknowledged local families' anxiety, highlighted ties to the Nepalese Association of Connecticut, and pledged to share information on credible relief efforts as recovery continues overseas.
   

• Wildlife rescuers in Connecticut free barred owl impaled by plumbing snake wire (thecooldown.com) — A West Hartford animal control officer helped rescue a barred owl that was impaled on a plumbing snake wire and brought it to raptor rehab center A Place Called Hope in Killingworth. The bird is now recovering and headed for cold laser therapy, while rescuers urge residents to store tools and sharp objects safely to protect wildlife.
