1. Noah Webster's Statue Looking Much Better After Much-Needed Cleaning: UPDATE (patch.com) — Residents strolling through Webster Walk may notice Noah Webster's statue looking brighter after a full head-to-toe cleaning that removed bacteria, fungus, and other growth. Town officials say the temporary reddish discoloration seen Friday was just part of the treatment process, and the West Hartford landmark should now appear cleaner and more vibrant for visitors.
2. 'Clear And Immediate Danger:' West Hartford Psychiatrist's License Suspended (patch.com) — West Hartford readers should know that a local psychiatrist's license has been summarily suspended after state health officials alleged improper prescribing, boundary violations with patients, and failure to cooperate with investigators. The Connecticut Medical Examining Board calls him a clear and immediate danger while a detailed disciplinary case, involving his South Main Street practice, moves forward and could lead to permanent sanctions.
3. West Hartford Adds 3 Food Scrap Drop-Off Sites (patch.com) — West Hartford has added three new food scrap drop-off sites at Wolcott Park, Beachland Park, and Sterling Field, bringing the townwide total to 11 locations. More than 1,600 residents already use the MetroKey app to access bins, helping divert over 93 tons of food waste from the trash and turning local kitchen scraps into useful compost instead of landfill.
4. Link Crew Leaders Provide New Students with 'Passport to Paradise' - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — West Hartford's Hall High School is kicking off the year with its long-running Link Crew program, where 91 upperclass leaders are helping 343 freshmen and new transfer students adjust to high school. Students can look forward to a Freshman Music Bingo night on Sept. 24 and "Cookies and Cram" midterm review sessions, all designed to build connections and ease the transition.
5. UConn Coach's Wife Nicole Candle on Family's Move from Ohio to Storrs (wfsb.com) — UConn football coach Jason Candle's family has settled in West Hartford, where his wife Nicole says they've felt warmly welcomed and their children are already making friends. She shares how the move from Ohio centers on helping the kids connect locally while also embracing the broader UConn football community and game-day traditions they hope residents will share with them.
